Insights
- The reason I started bodybuilding is...
I started bodybuilding because a close friend of mine showed me what is was all about. Being competitive, he told me I would have lots of potential in the sport. From that moment on, I started training for it, and before I knew it I was onstage and loving every moment!
- The person I most wanted to be when I started was...
I wanted to be just like Dorian Hamilton when I started. He’s a good friend and a mentor to me. He had what it takes to excel in this sport – not only in the weight room but the discipline outside as well.
- The person I owe the most to is...
Although there are many people I owe a lot to, the most important is my mother. Her support of me every step of the way was huge. No one was telling me I couldn’t do it. Without my mom’s hard work ethic, I don’t think I would be where I am today.
- The supplements I can’t live without are...
Some of the supplements that are constantly in my arsenal are PURPLE•K, SHUT•EYE, SUB•Q (for getting crazy ripped) and GLUTAMEND. I also use a protein iso for my morning shakes and a multivitamin. You cannot beat any of these supplements. If you’re looking for hardcore results, you need hardcore products.
- The best thing about training is...
It’s the freedom to go as hard as you want. At the end of the day, when you step in the gym, it’s all up to you. Of course, the pump is pretty awesome too.
- Two things I could change about bodybuilding are...
The first thing I would change about bodybuilding is to go back to the classic physiques where everyone looked harder and more appealing to look at. In my opinion, it has gotten out of hand. Second, I would want to change the way bodybuilding training has become. People are scared to try different exercises and strategies. This sport is extremely rough on the body because of the repetition of certain exercises. We need to learn other ways of increase muscle hypertrophy without repeating the same exercises over and over.
- My ultimate goal is...
It’s to help others that want to compete in bodybuilding. I would like to compete in bodybuilding every couple of years to keep the rush and keep lean. My heart is more about helping others get onstage and release their true potential.
- One thing every gym rat should know is...
They should know how to perform each exercise they’re doing before doing it. If you don’t know, you should get some help from a professional that teaches for a living.
- Years I’ve been training...
I have been training seriously for bodybuilding for three years and recreationally for five years.
- The last new bodybuilding thing I learned is...
I recently learned hand positions on all pulling exercises. The way the hand is positioned will greatly increase the muscular tension on your back and not in your arms.
- The one question I’d ask a pro is...
How much money do they spend per year just to compete in the sport?
- What I enjoy most about competing is...
The most enjoyable thing is to show everyone the hard work I put into my body to get it to look its best.
- The thing I hate most about stepping up onstage is...
The only thing I hate about stepping onstage is my right shoulder. When I pose, it sticks out weirdly due to an injury. I always think the judges are looking at it.
- The first thing I’ll do after getting my pro card is...
The first thing is to thank everyone that helped me get to where I am. Really, if it wasn’t for them, I know I wouldn’t be a pro! This sport is very team-oriented.
