Insights
- How I started in my sport is...
The reason I got into competitive powerlifting was for the competition. Nothing gets me and keeps me motivated like some great competition.
- The person I owe the most to is...
My mother. The things she taught me early in life, along with her constant support, have showed me there is nothing that I cannot do.
- The supplements I can’t live without are...
When it comes to dropping body fat, SUB•Q is the only way to go. Every time I’ve used it, I’ve had great success. The other supplements I would not go without are whey protein, OMEGA•OIL and a good multivitamin.
- Years I’ve been training...
I have been training in and out of the gym since 1996, after seeing the Summer Olympics in Atlanta on TV. I was really impressed with the great conditioning of the male gymnasts. My training really took off when I began my military career. Now it’s an essential part of my competitive powerlifting lifestyle, and now I do specialized training to better myself in the big three lifts.
- Two things I could change about my sport are...
I would try to get more people involved in powerlifting. It’s a small tight group of people who are very supportive, and I would love for it to continue to grow. I would also like to see more federations getting together and making the rules universal.
- My ultimate goal is...
I want to set some new world records and represent Canadians internationally.
- One thing every gym rat should know is...
No one cares what amount of weight you are lifting. Do what is the right amount for you. Don’t try to impress the cardio bunnies. Just better yourself and get the results you want.
- What I enjoy most about what I do is...
The thing I enjoy the most is the competition and being out there on the platform – just me and the bar, no excuses, just weights!
- My future holds...
Currently I am training for the Canadian Nationals, where I will be attempting to break two world records. As well, I will continue my training as I hope to compete in the Alberta Boxing Association sometime in 2011.
