Insights
- The reason I started bodybuilding is...
I was a comic writer and an artist, and I decided to try and work out to look like the characters I drew and wrote about.
- The person I most wanted to be when I started was...
Vegeta from Dragonball Z.
- The people I owe the most to are...
My brother and mother for being the most supportive people in my life, and always being there for me at my worst.
- The supplements I can’t live without are...
Whey protein isolate, multivitamins and AGENT•M.
- The best thing about training is...
Didn’t Arnold say it in a funny accent? It's the “pAump”!
- One thing I could change about bodybuilding is...
That you don’t need to be a genetic monster to become a bodybuilder. I wasn’t, but I became a bodybuilder. Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality. You make the decision; you choose who to be and who not to be. Experts may tell you what can’t be done, and why. Listen to them. Then go do it anyway.
- My ultimate goal is...
Become the 212-pound (previously 202) Showdown Olympia champion. It's not as much of a goal as it is a waiting game.
- One thing every gym rat should know is...
Don't listen to other gym rats.
- Years I’ve been training...
Six and a half so far.
- The last new bodybuilding thing I learned was...
There’s no one best style of training; everything works! It’s just that different parts of your body will respond better to certain styles, but in the end, all muscles grow.
- What I enjoy most about competing is...
First is the buildup of how I really want to just ... destroy my competitors onstage, make them stare at me and think, “Why is he in my weight class!?” Then of course there’s the part where you're onstage, and the lights, and the cheers, and all eyes on you.
- The thing I hate most about stepping up onstage is...
I don’t diet for ten weeks for something I’d have an issue with. I love every bit of competing.
- The first thing I’ll do after getting my pro card is...
Give seminars to the youth, teenagers, and misguided young bodybuilders on many issues that have been so taboo. Then train, compete, repeat several times, then win the 212 Olympia showdown.
