The reason I started bodybuilding is...

I always idolized muscular physiques even as a kid. I wanted to see if I could look like that myself one day.

The person I most wanted to be when I started was...

Lee Priest, because I thought he looked like a cartoon character, and I admired the amount of size he was able to put on his 5'4" frame.

The person I owe the most to is...

My wife, Valerie. I wouldn’t be able to be a successful bodybuilder without her love and constant support. She has helped me in so many ways I wouldn't even know where to begin.

The supplements I can’t live without are...

GLUTAMEND, PURPLE•K, AGENT•M branched-chain amino acids and whey protein.

The best thing about training is...

The challenge of it. Being able to challenge yourself in the gym and do things you wouldn’t think are normally possible. A strong mind equals a strong body.

Two things I could change about bodybuilding are...

Society’s perception of bodybuilding. Society views bodybuilding and bodybuilders negatively. Most people don’t realize the sacrifice it takes to make it to a bodybuilding stage. The other thing I would change is the amount of prize money given to pro bodybuilders. Bodybuilders are enormously underpaid for the amount of sacrifice and dedication it takes to be successful.

My ultimate goal is...

To become Mr. Olympia one day!

One thing every gym rat should know is...

Gym etiquette. Most people don't put away their weights away like they’re supposed to.

Years I’ve been training...

17 years.

The last new bodybuilding thing I learned is...

Stage presence counts for a lot. Very few bodybuilders spend enough time practicing their posing and displaying their physiques properly onstage, including me. This negatively affected me this year at the 2010 Canadian Nationals.

The one question I’d ask a pro is...

How does competing on a pro stage differ from competing on an amateur stage?

What I enjoy most about competing is...

The struggle to be the best. Everyone on a bodybuilding stage has trained hard and deserves to be up there, but it’s those few bodybuilders who do the little bit extra that end up on top.

The first thing I’ll do after getting my pro card is...

Definitely a celebration is in order with friends and family. I have been so close to getting a pro card I can taste it, but haven’t achieved it yet.
