“After a very serious car accident, I wasn’t sure what I would do with my life. Bodybuilding was my saviour, and I put all my knowledge and passion of the sport into this show and came in the best shape of my life. I went from ripped to totally shredded!”

DUNCAN’S ADVICE:

  1. Keep your training consistent throughout the year. There’s no such thing as an off-season.
  2. Never be afraid to fail! Believe in yourself! Never let anyone tell you that you can’t live and achieve your dreams. SHOW them that you CAN! There has never been something great to gain without something great to lose.
  3. Train the same all year round: hard, strict and heavy.
  4. Always do your abdominal work BEFORE you train the main body part(s). You shouldn’t want or be able to do abs after a leg, chest or back workout.
  5. OBSESSED” is just a word the LAZY use to describe the DEDICATED!

“As a natural bodybuilder, I need to make sure I’m using the best supplements available. That’s why I use FUSION products. Two trophies in one show… that’s what it’s about.”

BOBBY’S ADVICE:

  1. Document everything. Keep track of your diet and changes you make to it, your body weight, strength, how you feel, changes you see when you look in the mirror and so on. This will make things much easier when planning for your next competition because you will have notes to look back at. Progression pictures will also help.
  2. Have a good support team. Your family, friends, co-workers, training partners, coach and sponsors are each a huge part of the process of getting onstage and competing. Make sure they all have your back.
  3. Believe in yourself, and make sure your support team believes in you as well. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will either. There’s nothing wrong with being confident – just make sure it doesn’t turn into being cocky.

“After winning the Nationals as a middleweight I decided to really push my limits. I jumped on FUSION supplements and packed on 20 pounds of quality muscle in one year. I was beyond ripped and battled it out as a light-heavyweight — my transformation pix tell the story.”

DAVE’S ADVICE: After you’ve set up your contest prep, follow the plan and do not second-guess yourself. See your plan through and then after you’re done, look back and see what you can fine tune for next time. If your conditioning was where you wanted it to be then you know your strategy worked.

“I haven’t competed in a long time but decided to give it a go. I was always able to put on muscle fairly easily but found myself very fat…this cut was going to be hard. So I put my diet together and grabbed my supps and I think the results were great. I was totally shocked when I won my class and took the overall!”

DARRYL’S ADVICE:
When you’re onstage and up against some stiff competition you never really know who’s going to win. But what I’ve found is that all things being equal it’s the person who is the most ripped who will win. So give yourself a lot of time to get the “onion-skin” look that wins shows. You have to be brutally honest with your diet and be super consistent…that’s what wins shows.

“I’ve been lifting for a few years but it wasn’t until I was told I had some potential that I decided to take the next step. I decided to try to put on some quality muscle and really take my physique to the next level. I also took a crack at stepping onstage and recieved my level two qualification. Bodybuilding has changed my life.”

LAURISTON’S ADVICE:
Follow your dreams in life; you only live once. Bodybuilding is not easy. It takes a lot of dedication and will power. I’ve learned that everyone out there has different theories on becoming a great bodybuilder; it can be confusing. But you need to have an open mind to learn new things. Find what works for you and with the proper training and diet, you can reach your full potential.

“I’m very happy about my transformation for this contest. I never really get fat, but I was able to pack on some good muscle in 12 weeks and bring out a lot of deep definition. I’m only one step away from the Nationals, baby. I can’t wait to step onstage again!”

ERIC’S ADVICE: Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. If you are thinking about doing a show you need to be prepared. Here are a few tips:

  1. Make sure your job does not involve crazy physical labor.
  2. Make sure you have a solid support group to be there for you every step of the way.
  3. Make sure you are mentally prepared because you are in for one hell of a ride!

Here’s one more piece of advice for hard-gainers like me: If you want to put on some muscle and size, keep a very strict log of how many calories you are consuming and never miss a meal!!!

“Being only 24 years old and competing against some of the best amateurs in bodybuilding I know I have to use the strongest supplements. This transformation was crazy for me.”

NICK’S ADVICE: The best thing you can have is a great bunch of friends who understand what you’re trying to accomplish and will support you when you need it. My buddies gave me the strength to rock out onstage. They kept me focused and I won my class.

“I competed in three shows last year, and every show was a better creation onstage. This year, I took part in the WBFF World Championships with the help of FUSION products. I stepped onstage 10 pounds heavier and leaner than any previous show I’ve done! Time to do it all over again!”

DAN’S ADVICE:

  1. Take the game plan and stick to it! The body doesn’t react well to quick changes, so remember, once you have a game plan, be consistent and never second-guess yourself.
  2. Remember when you’re reaching for that cheat, it will set you back three days worth of work! That’s three days of cardio and three days of hard training. Is it really worth it?
  3. Unless your metabolism is genetically superhero-like, you’d better not miss a meal or a cardio session! I know cardio is tedious, but get some good music and get rockin’!
  4. After it’s all said and done, assess your finished physique. Anything you can tweak diet-wise? Cardio-wise? Training-wise? Bodybuilding is a long road of trial and error, but never be afraid to ask a fellow bodybuilder for five minutes of his time. If even one thing sparks your interest, it was worth it!

“I started competing when I was 16 – that was three years ago. Since that time, I’ve been able to pack on 30 pounds of pure muscle. What was great about this contest season is that I was able to really maintain my muscle while dialing in super-dry. I can’t wait for the next three years!”

ALEX’S ADVICE:

Remember, everyone is different. Just because something works for someone else does not mean it will work for you. Find your own way!

  1. Never forget your legs.
  2. Dieting is everything — I’d sooner miss a training session than a meal.
  3. The gym is not a place to talk. Zone out and train hard!

For this year’s Nationals, I took a solid 16-week prep period. However, most of the battle was in the offseason putting on the size I needed, which I can proudly say I accomplished. Once the diet started, I had more confidence and determination than ever, which got me where I am now, placing third in Canada!

JODI’S ADVICE:
This sport is much more than just a hobby — it’s a lifestyle! You have to love what you’re doing and be passionate about it. With passion, dedication and determination, only success can follow!

  1. Be strict with your diet – like I said, if you truly love what you’re doing you shouldn’t even want to cheat – you’d rather see results! After all, it’s 80 percent of the final outcome!
  2. Surround yourself with people who understand the sport and give you full support! This really is a different lifestyle, so without support you’re in for a tough ride!
  3. Always keep your dreams and goals in mind — go after them, no matter what!
  4. Have a plan before getting the gym. Know which body parts you’re doing, and have exercises in mind. “No plan” equals “bad workout”! Get there and get’er done!!
  5. Train insane! Lift heavy, go hard, get sweaty and love it! Thats why your there. No pain, no gain!

KELLY DEWBURY

“After not competing for 10 years I really wanted to get back on the stage. I was pretty fat and started my contest prep late, but my supplement and training regime really brought me in quick. I was able to stand beside some really seasoned bodybuilders. What a rush that was.”

KELLY’S ADVICE: Bodybuilding ain’t easy — especially when you’re dieting for a show. To avoid putting any added stress on yourself, make sure there’s not too much going on in your life when you decide to compete. My wife was pregnant the last time I competed — that was a lot of stress.

“I’ve loved bodybuilding since I was 18 years old. I’ve been working hard for the past 12 years to improve my physique, but decided that this would be my last show. So, I hit it with all I had — the gym, food and supplements. I’m stoked with what I’ve accomplished. I may never step onstage again, but I’ll always be a bodybuilder.”

JIMMY’S ADVICE: Having been in the bodybuilding industry for over 12 years, I feel I have grown a lot as a bodybuilder and as a person. Here are a few things I have learned over the years:

  1. You have to train your ass off.
  2. Be consistent. Never miss a meal, a workout, or a cardio session… ever!
  3. Get enough rest.
  4. Find what works for you.
  5. Most of all, have fun. Don’t take the sport too seriously. Make it a lifestyle, not your life. Life balance is key.
